Did You Know Those 5 Extra Pounds Might be Toxins?

What 5lb of Fat Looks Like:

Are you struggling with just a few extra pounds that you can’t seem to lose? You’ve followed a fairly strict diet and workout daily. Why could this possibly be happening?

Well, those few extra pounds might be toxins! If your gut is burdened with extra pounds of toxic waste, you will have difficulty losing weight and keeping it off! Clean-eating and fitness are not the only things that go into the total weight-loss package! Your gut is one of the most important organs in your body when it comes to losing weight.

Have you completely removed all processed foods from your diet? This includes processed meats (most sausages), cereal, crisps, fizzy drinks, ice cream, french fries & chips, burger buns, pizza, pasta, most bread, and sweets! Processed foods aren’t natural. They are in fact loaded with chemicals and produced in a lab that has profit in their best interests! Junk food rewards our brains, not our bodies. The best thing you can feed your body is whole, fresh, green food. Ditch the fried chicken and tacos to-go!

Consuming processed foods at any amount can cause a gastrointestinal disruption which in turn leads to bloating, trouble losing weight, and insulin resistance. The long-term effects of processed food consumption can lead to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Why risk it?

The key is to have readily available whole foods at your fingertips. Snacking on processed foods is usually the result of not planning meals ahead of time, having convenient access to a vending machine, or eating out.

Head to your local health food store and pick up some organic strawberries, blueberries, bananas, or almonds. Plan your meals to be as raw and hearty as possible! Try adding dried dates to your dinner salad for a sweet addition that doesn’t wreak havoc on your body! The possibilities are endless! Don’t settle for processed foods. Settle for a happy, healthy life free of diseases due to poor diet. Achieve your weight-loss goals and say goodbye to processed foods today!

Why (dramatic) weight loss NEEDS to be done right.

Where you born before 1976?

Or After?

…before you start any dramatic weight loss, you may want to watch my last video:

You’ll learn that fat has all kinds of unexpected disrupting effects on health, and also the surprising downside of rapid weight loss – the release of toxins.

What I don’t mention in the video is that those born before 1976 have 5x the amount of specific man-made toxins now no longer available (due to their proven poisonous nature), and when you lose weight you will release them into your blood stream.

This is why it’s so important to include plenty of protein, and toxin binders into a weight loss program…

…which is why I’ll be running a 5 day ‘5lb’ ‘toxin loss’ challenge from Jan 4th.

I’ll release more details closer to the time.

When you watch the video you may also be surprised to see just how big 5lbs of fat is.

Fat Increases:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Blood pressure
  • Knee arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Inflammation

Fat Lowers:

  • Immunity

Fat Disrupts:

  • Sleep
  • Hormones

Fat Stores:

  • Toxins! This is why weight loss must be done properly

Every fat cell creates inflammatory chemicals, and lowers your immunity

Loosing just 5lbs decreases all those risk factors.

While you wait for the 5lb ‘toxin loss’ challenge pick up a copy of my Beat Cravings Guide:

R2 – Regenerate Your Cell Membranes

It’s not just the 2 layers of the cell wall that are membranes.  (The brains of your cell)

There’s also the membranes around your mitochondria. (The power plants of your cell)

And also something called endoplasmic reticulum (ER), which is apparently mostly membrane.  The ER is responsible for both making everything your cell want to make and for detoxifying and cleaning it. (So the ER is your manufacturing and clean-up crews)

So, when we talk about regenerating cell membranes we’re talking about fixing your:
     1) Brain
     2) Energy
     3) Ability to repair and maintain your body
     4) Ability to keep clean on the inside, and not poison yourself

Pretty important!

Just like the video for R1 (Remove the source)….
this training was originally done online as part of www.Mi365.me

The 3 major causes of cell membrane damage:

i) raised glucose and insulin
ii) bad fats and too many veg oils (commercial)
iii) toxins
iv) a lack of all the right nutrients to build them in the first place

If you would like to learn more about R2, here’s the PDF by Dr Pompa, the originator of this cellular concept:

If you are interested in assessing your cells for toxicity there are 3 tests I would recommend.

One of them is 100% free and we can send it to you, along with information on the other 2.

The Four Horsemen of Your Health Apocalypse

I know.
It’s a dramatic title.
But it’s also alarmingly true.

Nearly all of today’s chronic illnesses are caused by a combination of these Four Horsemen. Ignore their insidious infestation into your life at your peril…

I originally made this video as part of a training series (I mentioned The Magnificent 7 Health Strategies).  For more details on that scroll down.

Back to the 4 Horsemen

No surprises here I’m sure. 75-90% of GP visits are related to stress, and stress contributes to everything from cancer to back pain.

2.Sedentary lifestyle

A lack of exercise is related to increased cancer, heart disease, depression, dementia, back pain etc.
Spinal motion all by itself is critically important. 90% of the brains stimulation comes from optimal spinal motion. The brain can turn on or off stress and regulates all of your body’s functions.

“90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by movement of the spine.”
-Dr. Roger Sperry (Nobel Prize Recipient for Brain Research)

“Approximately 80% of baseline activity of the central nervous system is due to mechanoreceptor input.”
-Kandel and Schwartz “Principles of Neural Science.” 4th Edition (2000)

Related to the spine is poor posture .  Poor posture leads to an early grave.

Am Journal of Pain Management – 1994 – posture effects and moderates every physiological function

Sept 2005 Spine article on posture  – all measures of health decreased as posture deviated from normal.

Most people associate malnutrition to mean a lack of calories and picture starving children in Africa. However far MORE people die from too many calories combined with a lack of micronutrients. This is what plagues the UK.  Proper nutrition, which means supplements as well as a good diet, is the most cost effective way to improve the health of the nation.

Nutrition 17:1 return on investment: Copenhagen Consensus 2008: The world’s best investment

“Today, an adequate supply of nutrients is often unattainable solely through a well-balanced diet, so a targeted, individually designed dietary supplement regime is necessary”

“Improvement in nutritional behavior could not replenish already exhausted nutrient reservoirs. Only supplementation was able to significantly boost nutrient levels and confer beneficial effects on general welfare, physical performance, and resistance to infections”

This is the most ignored area, yet often the most critical in serious and ‘terminal’ cases. There are at least 700 man made toxins in every adult and child. Toxins cause ¼ of all deaths world wide. They contribute to 86% of chronic disease (cancer, heart disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s  etc), and account for rising cancer rates in children.

“A World Health Organization report on the global burden of disease estimated that nearly a quarter of the global disease burden is related to environmental causes.”

Get Your Health Back

What Is Your Action Motivator

What is Your Action Motivator?

A Happy, Beautiful, New Year To You.

Have you already made plans to make 2016 your best year yet?

And if not, why not?

Have you got any goals? Anything you have been meaning to achieve but have not yet?

Whatever your goal it’ll be easier with Optimal Health.

…and achieving your goals will be even easier if you know your ‘Action Motivator’.

If you don’t know what that is, then stop whatever you are doing and get this figured out first.

Your Action Motivator is the simplified version of your Big Why!

Your Big Why is the reason you get up in the morning to do ‘stuff’.

The reason why you get up and go to work.   And I’m not talking about the money – it’s what you plan to do with the money. So it could be to have exotic holidays, buy your spouse fantastic gifts, educate your children, full fill your charitable mission, buy a new Porsche, etc etc. Your action motivator is everything boiled down to a word or two, or at most a phrase.

You can probably guess my action motivator. Simply the word ‘Health’. Everything I do comes back to it. Does it help improve the health of my family? My own health? The health of my patients? My friends? My community? The Planet?

You do have different specific Action Motivators too. For instance at the moment I am planning to go on a detox with my wife – and although there is the health aspect there is also the very real and vein reason I want to have the body of Hollywood star, just to prove that I can do it.

So what is your Action Motivator?

If you have a goal revolving around health then I have more for you on my New Year message video.

In it I reveal the 4 main causes of 90% of modern disease. 4 things that no matter how old, young, fit or sick you are, if you take care of them you WILL improve.

So to kick start your health this year :

As a brief summary, the 4 main causes of ill health (the ‘Deadly Quartet’ are

  1. Toxicity
  2. Malnutrition (yes, even in Brookmans Park and the rest of the UK)
  3. Stress
  4. Lack of motion

If you are ready for change, and ready for action then at Body In Balance we aim to inspire you to be well and live better, in body mind and spirit by showing you ways to combat the Deadly Quartet daily. (some are easy, some are fun, and some are even delicious.)

Oestrogen Detox

The Toxic Baby

This excellent TED talk should make it abundantly clear why we ALL need to take active steps towards regular ‘detox’ fasts.

As a man I was particularly motivated by the idea of not wanting to develop eggs in my testicles!

Once you have watched the video scroll down to find out about a detox that actually works (most are pretty much a fad).

Avoiding hormone disrupting chemicals is not enough, as this research into just one chemical has found:

Toxins don’t just cause mutations, they cause immune problems:

Environmental toxicants and the developing immune system: A missing link in the global battle against infectious disease?

  • There is now compelling evidence that developmental exposure to chemicals from our environment contributes to disease later in life, with animal models supporting this concept in reproductive, metabolic, and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • The consequences of early life exposures that reduce immune function are profound
  • These findings suggest that exposure to common chemicals from our daily environment represent overlooked contributors to the fact that infectious diseases remain among the top five causes of death worldwide.

So, How to Detox?

Read my two blog posts, about the 7 Day Intense Dr Bob Rakowski Detox

You can watch my short video series here to discover my experience:

Dr Bob Rakowski Detox Testimonial

Detox Kicks Bad Habits!

I recently received a great testimonial from someone who went through the ‘Dr Bob Detox’ in order to help him stop drinking so much.

Before sharing his results, here is an update of further benefits I have received:

Detox Can reveal Your True Addictions

Dear Chris.

I completed my 7 day detox this morning and thought you may be interested in my thoughts and the results I achieved.

Firstly, as you know, my primary reason for detoxing was to try and wean myself off the bottle of wine a day I have been consuming for the past considerable length of time. Hypnotherapy (at the pain clinic), meditation, concerns over high blood pressure and concerns from friends and family haven’t been able to help me reduce my consumption at all. Though I follow a healthy diet (no irony intended), weight train, cycle and run most days of the week I have also become reliant on Diet Coke to see me through the energy lows that come from consuming so much alcohol and I have been drinking at least a litre a day, often more!

Hence the Programme.

Having made the commitment I had no fear that I would be able to complete it but, despite watching the film of your experience, my primary concern was that I would have a major reaction to alcohol and caffeine deprivation; would end up with blinding headaches, diarrhea, zero energy, etc and be continually hungry. Chris, the programme was excellent!

I can honestly say that I didn’t experience a prolonged headache throughout the 7 days. I got the occasional pain (rather like a hunger pain, a niggling irritation in my temple that lasted until I had some vegetables), but nothing like I’ve been experiencing from all the wine I’ve been consuming or my bodies reaction when I’ve attempted to reduce my caffeine intake.

Days 2 and 7 were my worst days:

Day 2. Very little energy and feelings of anxiety alternating with poor focus (not all the time but when it was time to take another shake).

Day 7. No energy and bad tempered (out of sorts), but maybe due to feeling so well on Day 6 I had done too much exercise and gardening!

Days 3,4,5,and 6. Woke up with lots of energy, was able to continue with my free weight programme and gentle 3km runs each day. Felt focused and perfectly able to work.

I was really impressed with the programme, the shakes are filling and reasonably tasty (as you know). My major problem was with eating so many ‘greens’. I can honestly say I missed salt more than I missed either the wine or the Coke, however what I craved most was fruit; a continual longing for any fresh fruit at all times of the day…I guess it was sugar I really wanted and, apart from wine, fruit is my primary source of sugar.

Anyway, here are the results from my 7 day programme. I weighed myself each day, took three blood pressure readings from which i got the days average and then calculated the reduction for the week.

BP: 06/07/15                             132/ 84

BP: 13/07/15                             115/ 78

Waist:     06/07                              34.5″

Weight:     06/07                           67kg
                 13/07                                   64.1kg

Body Fat:     06/07                16.4

Muscle:            06/07                53.1
                         13/07                52.1

Visceral Fat: 06/07                    7.5
13/07                        5

I’m amazed by the reduction in my blood pressure and if I can keep off the salt as well as the wine and coke I have no doubt that I’ll be making an appointment with the Dr to discuss reducing my medication.

Waist reduction is great and by sticking to a clean diet, free of alcohol, aspartamine and soda I know I’ll reduce more fat from my waist line.

Visceral Fat result is fantastic!

I would wholeheartedly recommend this programme, it was easy, practical, simple, not too challenging and easy to fit in with my everyday life. The results are fantastic and I’m optimistic that I’ll be able to keep off the wine until I feel strong enough to reintroduce into my life occasionally and only at social occasions.

Many thanks Chris, wish me luck and wish me well

How to Detox

How to detox, who needs to detox, and what is detox anyway?

Updated 2021

There are a number of detox programs we use at Body In Balance.

One we use is based upon the original 90 day True Cellular Detox Program, but adapted to UK available supplements (and a number of years experience)  which is easy for most people to do, and more importantly it is effective.

A second program we use is an Intense 7 Day detox (and milder 30 day followup) which we use to get fast change in those who can tolerate it:

A third is based on the work of Dr Bryan Walsh in the USA. — If you are not a patient but want to learn more:  Walsh Detox

More on how we rebuild cells so you can heal and detox

What is a ‘Detox’, and Who Needs It?

Let’s start with the who…

Who Needs Detox

First off, people who are exposed regularly to toxins – which does not just mean industrial chemists. Dentists and hair dressers, and people who smoke – or who have smoked in the past. Remember, hair colouring is a toxic chemical, most make up and perfumes, and massive tattoos are also full of crud.

The truth is though, that there are so many toxins in the environment now that most of us have between 200 and 700 man made chemicals inside us!

5 Reasons You Need to Detox according to Mark Hyman ND

1. You have FLC Syndrome: Feel Like Crap.

You wake up feeling less than a million dollars!. You have symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, achiness, digestive issues, allergies, headaches.  Most of us don’t connect what we’re eating to how we feel

2. You can’t lose weight and keep it off (you want to fit into your jeans).

The scientific establishment has convinced us that losing weight is just a matter of calories in/calories out, that it’s about energy balance, about eating less and exercising more. How’s that working out for you? Possibly not so well! Problem is, the scientific establishment is different from the established science. The science says sugar and flour calories are WAY different from fat calories. Sugar triggers addiction, insulin release, inflammation, and belly fat storage.  Fat does not do that. Avoid nonsense such as low fat foods – including skimmed milk (it contains more sugar than full fat milk)

3. You can’t control your sugar and carb cravings (you may be suffering from food addiction – see above).

The fact is that sugar and flour are biologically addictive.. They takeover of your taste buds, brain chemistry, hormones and metabolism. Sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine. If you are trying to use willpower alone to lose weight you may fail.

4. You never have detoxed.

Most of us have never in our life taken 7 days to put nothing in our bodies but delicious, whole clean food. Just 7 days. Even if you think you are healthy and feel good, you may not realize that your normal state is not your optimal state. Think of it as a tune-up, a super-quick, super-easy way to supercharge your health.

As I said in the video – Dr Bob Rakowski even gets elite, Olympic athletes to do better after 7 days on his detox protocol.

5. You need a STAYCATION.

All of us stray from living in a way that supports our health: too little sleep, too little exercise, too much bad food, too much stress, not enough time for ourselves. The best way to reset your life is a 7-day detox. Simple, delicious foods. No toxins or drugs, by which I mean sugar, flour, processed foods, caffeine or alcohol. Self-nurturing practices: deep breathing, sleeping 7-8 hours a night, a little exercise, self-love. All this works to get your body and mind back to their original factory settings—and quickly!

What is a Detox Anyway

Cleanses and detoxes are trendy, popular, and promise to clear out nasty toxins from your

body and make you healthier.  Chemicals from pesticides, chlorine, bleach and ammonia, and carbon monoxide build up over time and cause disease.  Heavy metals are often a culprit in general ‘illness’.

For example:

•             Calcium is replaced by lead, which deposits primarily in bone, and disrupts the formation of red blood cells. Lead contributes to poor bone health such as osteopenia and osteoporosis.

•             Zinc is replaced by cadmium, which tends to accumulate heavily in your kidneys. Cadmium overload is associated with peripheral neuropathy.

•             Magnesium is replaced by aluminum, which, among other things, induces neurochemical changes and has been identified as a contributing factor to developing Alzheimer’s.

•             Manganese is replaced by nickel, which is carcinogenic.

7 day juice detox

Detoxification is growing increasingly popular.

Juice cleanses, colon cleanses, fruit detoxes, sugar detoxes—we’ve all seen these things,  but do they actually work?  The old idea for detoxing was to fast, but your body needs nutrients to perform optimally under any condition, and that includes performing the tasks of detoxification.

The normal pathway for toxins to move out of the body is through the liver, which converts harmful chemicals into water-soluble molecules that can be flushed out in the urine or faeces. If there’s a delay in elimination, however, those toxins remain in your system longer. As the modern western diet often leads to constipation many ‘detox’ remedies and systems are little more than laxatives – they get a sluggish system going.  They will help some people feel better, but they are not truly detox solutions.

You need to establish a healthy lifestyle and dietary habits FIRST, so you have a reserve that your body can draw on to allow your liver to do its job properly.

If you fail to do this you can easily overwhelm your liver’s ability to process the toxic substances that are being eliminated and you will become very sick, wishing you had never done the detox in the first place.

The Weston A. Price diet recommendations — which were written in 1920 and still, like all truths, hold true today — includes these timeless guidelines:

•             Eat foods that are natural, unprocessed, and organic (and contain no sugar except for the occasional bit of honey or maple syrup).

•             Eat foods that grow in your native environment. In other words, eat locally grown, seasonal foods.

•             Eat unpasteurized dairy products (such as raw milk) and fermented foods.

•             Eat at least one-third of your food raw.

•             Make sure you eat enough healthy fats, including those from animal sources like omega-3 fat, and reduce your intake of omega-6 from vegetable oils.

Additionally, it’s important to understand that if you’re deficient in essential metals, your body will actually use toxic heavy metals as “stand-ins” instead.

So for most people I would recommend going through the full True Cellular Detox Program, and for the more hardy, the 7 Day Intense – both supervised by a health care practitioner.

You will need the correct selection of nutrients – available here
