Lower Back Pain Treatment at Home

Home 9 How to Be Healthy 9 Lower Back Pain Treatment at Home

Having treated lower back pain for almost 20 years, I’ve learned a thing or two about what can be done at home, right now, to try and ease your back pain.

First off though, I have to warn you that low back pain can be a very serious condition, especially if it lasts more than 3 days – and immediately if you have tingling or numbness (especially around your buttocks or groin), or if you loose bowel or bladder control.

Even though everything I am about to share with you about low back pain relief should be safe to try out at home, there is no substitute for going and getting direct professional advice from someone that will actually physically examine your spine.

What I’m saying here is – if you are in a bad way – GET HELP NOW! …and don’t blame me if you try any of this and you get worse.

With that said, if you are cautious and follow my guidelines you will know what to do and what not to do…

Treating Your Low Back Pain at Home

Because you have found this page I assume that you have tried pain killers and they either have not worked or – you know how harmful medical pain killers can be and don’t wish to take them (if you don’t know – read this – You’d Have to Be Nuts to Take Pain Killers )

It’s also pretty likely that you have tried ice or heat – but maybe you are confused as to which to try?

Ice or Heat for Treating Low Back Pain

The general rule of thumb is ice for 5-10 minutes per hour for the first 2 or 3 days. However, it maybe that your pain is due to lack of circulation, in which case heat would be better.

I have more information on appropriate use of ice and heat my Natural Pain Relief page.

Exercises for Low Back Pain Treatment

There are many exercises and stretches you can use for lower back pain treatment at home and I have posted a series of spinal hygiene videos online already.

However, there is a clever device I have recently discovered that can greatly help…

Lower Back Pain Treatment at Home – with Flexi-bak

This clever little contraption was invented by an osteopath in the UK. I had seen it around for some years, but always thought it looked uncomfortable.

Then I went to the back pain show in London and actually saw them demonstrated and tried one out for myself.  I learned two things very quickly – first, despite appearances the Flexi-bak is very comfortable to lie on.

Second, I didn’t realise that the Flexi-bak had moving parts and came with an exercise program.
One of the Flexi-bak company slogans is “So comfy, you could fall asleep”

You can see it in action on You tube

What Else Do you Need to Know About the Flexi-bak
