Most people in the West die of preventable causes, like diabetes and heart disease.
However, you can only prevent these chronic diseases if you
a) know what you are doing to cause them
b) take steps to address the cause.
With diabetes type 2, if you ask most health experts like GP’s and nutritionists they will probably tell you its all about sugar and poor food choices.
They may also say there’s a link to obesity.
We certainly know that an extreme ultra-low calorie diet will reverse a ‘fatty liver’ caused by a poor diet, and that this then leads to a reversal of diabetes. (I reported on the Fast Fix back in 2012 – https://www.thepainreliefcentres.co.uk/meditation-and-diabetes/)
However, it may be that it’s not the sugar itself that caused the fatty liver, it may actually have been something else..
Studies done a number of years ago revealed that it was toxicity and not obesity that was related to diabetes development.
Certain toxins increase the likelihood of diabetes by a huge 37.7 x
The good news though is that this fatty, toxic liver can be cleaned up:

Parents are right to be concerned about the hours their children spend looking down at their phone. And of course it’s not just children on mobile phones – it’s you too most likely.
The forward head posture caused by continual mobile phone and now tablet use is going to be responsible for more than just neck pain and headaches.
Text Neck can cause or contribute to upper back pain, shoulder pain and far worse.
Rene Caillet, Director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Southern California points out these facts about forward head posture:
Forward head posture leads to loss of optimal spinal motion and function.
Optimal spinal motion is necessary for endorphin production (the chemical mediators that help reduce pain). Without this endorphin production the rest of the body tissues can become more sensitised to pain.
Forward Head Syndrome can deplete lung capacity by as much as 30%
Forward Head Syndrome can deplete lung capacity by as much as 30%. Shortness of breath can lead to heart and blood vascular disease.
Forward head posture can cause the entire gastrointestinal tract to be affected, particularly the large intestine. Loss of good bowel function and evacuation are a common sequel associated with this postural weakness and may lead to toxic effects.
Apart from banning the use of mobile phones and tablets here’s what you can do:
Encourage Good Posture and get regular posture checks.
The International Posture Association recommends everyone should get their posture checked at least annually from the age of six. In line with these recommendations we offer free spinal and posture health checks at Body In Balance. Give us a call today on 01707 662 704 to book a check up. It will only take about 20 minutes in total.
Poor Posture – Die Young (scary but true)
The International Posture Association recommends everyone should have yearly posture checks from the age of 6. Why?
It is because poor posture has a devastating effect on your health – especially forward head posture. Does this look like you, or someone you know?
Over 100 years ago two doctors at Harvard Medical School performed hundreds of autopsies and determined 99% of all disease was down to ‘bad posture’ putting undue mechanical pressures on muscles, joints, internal organs and blood vessels.
20 years later, another American doctor, Henry Winsor, was more specific, finding a 96% correlation between minor curvatures of the spine and diseases of the internal organs.
More recent research has confirmed these early findings, that poor posture is related to disease and a shorter life.
Posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.
-American Journal of Pain Management 1994, 4:36-39
Forward head posture leads to long term muscle strain, disc herniations, arthritis, and pinched nerves.
-Mayo Clinic, Nov 3rd, 2000
The more mechanically distorted a person is, the less energy is available for healing, metabolism, and thought.
-Roger Sperry, Ph.D. (Noble Prize in Physiology)
Some poor posture relates to birth injuries, so although the International Posture Association recommends checks on posture form the age of 6, some would argue it is worth having spines checked from birth.

While traditional porridge oats has many health qualities it may surprise you to know that it has more calories per serving than a bowl of Kellogg’s Frosties!
This is bad news for diabetics, people with any kind of pain or inflammation (e.g arthritis, cancer, dementia) or if you are trying to lose weight.
What you really need is a no sugar or ‘ketogenic’ version.
So here is a much healthier, delicious hot or cold ketogenic recipe.
Take an equal amount of flaked almonds and pecans (70g each) (or soak whole almonds overnight to soften them) and blend them together with a small amount of coconut milk (100ml) and a bit of nutmeg.
You can then add more coconut milk and heat it if you wish – and add some berries on top too.
I have also tried blending in cashews, and adding cinnamon (which is very good for blood sugar control).
The original recipe is in the TeamHannah Ketogenic cookbook which is available in the clinic for £15 or online – http://www.teamhannah.com/the-team-hannah-cookbook/
Buy it if you A) want to raise some money for a cancer therapy Hannah and I believe in or B) don’t want to spend a few minutes searching the internet for ketogenic recipes (there are lots, so easy to find).

More on choosing a healthy diet:
Fibromyalgia is a painful condition, often related to chronic fatigue and brain fog.
It is poorly understood, and often very hard to manage with conventional medicine.
Luckily, some people with diagnosed fibromyalgia may not actually have fibromyalgia at all but a treatable collection of problems that have to be managed together. Some would argue that ALL fibromyalgia is treatable IF you can find the multiple causes.
Here is one testimonial from a happy patient who after receiving a course of spinal care, and taking the medicinal mushroom called ganoderma, along with a healthy eating plan, has made dramatic progress.
Each case we take on is individually assessed for their functional needs. We seek to improve the function and health of the individual rather than treating any particular condition.

What is Your Action Motivator?
A Happy, Beautiful, New Year To You.
Have you already made plans to make 2016 your best year yet?
And if not, why not?
Have you got any goals? Anything you have been meaning to achieve but have not yet?
Whatever your goal it’ll be easier with Optimal Health.
…and achieving your goals will be even easier if you know your ‘Action Motivator’.
If you don’t know what that is, then stop whatever you are doing and get this figured out first.
Your Action Motivator is the simplified version of your Big Why!
Your Big Why is the reason you get up in the morning to do ‘stuff’.
The reason why you get up and go to work. And I’m not talking about the money – it’s what you plan to do with the money. So it could be to have exotic holidays, buy your spouse fantastic gifts, educate your children, full fill your charitable mission, buy a new Porsche, etc etc. Your action motivator is everything boiled down to a word or two, or at most a phrase.
You can probably guess my action motivator. Simply the word ‘Health’. Everything I do comes back to it. Does it help improve the health of my family? My own health? The health of my patients? My friends? My community? The Planet?
You do have different specific Action Motivators too. For instance at the moment I am planning to go on a detox with my wife – and although there is the health aspect there is also the very real and vein reason I want to have the body of Hollywood star, just to prove that I can do it.
So what is your Action Motivator?
If you have a goal revolving around health then I have more for you on my New Year message video.
In it I reveal the 4 main causes of 90% of modern disease. 4 things that no matter how old, young, fit or sick you are, if you take care of them you WILL improve.
So to kick start your health this year :
As a brief summary, the 4 main causes of ill health (the ‘Deadly Quartet’ are
If you are ready for change, and ready for action then at Body In Balance we aim to inspire you to be well and live better, in body mind and spirit by showing you ways to combat the Deadly Quartet daily. (some are easy, some are fun, and some are even delicious.)
This excellent TED talk should make it abundantly clear why we ALL need to take active steps towards regular ‘detox’ fasts.
As a man I was particularly motivated by the idea of not wanting to develop eggs in my testicles!
Once you have watched the video scroll down to find out about a detox that actually works (most are pretty much a fad).
Avoiding hormone disrupting chemicals is not enough, as this research into just one chemical has found:
You actually have to detox.
So, How to Detox?

What do you think?
We all do it.
But there is a difference between good and bad breathing.
Over the years I have been in practice I have come across many breathing techniques with various health benefits to, such as 7-7 breathing and 7-14 breathing
Today however is the time for 4-7-8 breathing.
It’s explained in the video:
