I myself am fairly sceptical about most health claims, whether its about some new wonder supplement, another untested vaccine scam, or even my own profession of chiropractic. Homeopathy is something that even though I understand the theory, and I’ve seen it work, I still believe it’s mostly in the mind. It doesn’t help that often the only time we hear about homeopathy in the news is another ‘proof’ that it does not work.
What I want to know though, is why there is so much effort to disprove it.
Could it be that really it does work, at least as well as conventional medicine, but at a fraction of the cost, and with no deadly side effects?
Well here is one news story you didn’t hear, about how well homeopathy works.
In Cuba there is an annual outbreak of leptospirosis. Knowing this, a vaccine had been developed. The vaccine cost $2 million to treat the population, but still resulted in thousands of infections and some deaths. In 2007 and 2008 though, for some reason it was decided a homeopathic prevention should be used instead. Now maybe it was purely economics, as treatment of the entire population only cost $200,000, only one tenth of the conventional medical approach.
The results of preventing leptospirosis with homeopathy where remarkable: there where no deaths, and only 10 people showed infection. Quite an improvement over a normal vaccine, far safer, far cheaper, and certainly not ‘all in the mind’.
Please pass this news on!
