R4 – Reduce Inflammation

Are you burning up?

If you’re reading this then I’m 100% certain that this article is of prime importance to either you, or someone very close to you.

There is a large body of evidence that suggests inflammation is the root cause of cancer, diabetes, thyroid disorders, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and many other chronic diseases.

It can even be behind the inability to lose weight.

Before watching my training video inspired by Dr Pompa, and originally part of www.Mi365.me, here’s a personal story as told by a colleague of mine in the USA:

Inflammation of the cell membrane that affects the way the cell communicates, detoxes and will ultimately change gene expression, leading to a diseases of genetic weakness.

There are 3 main contributors that always need to be addressed in order to down-regulate inflammation.

  • Controlling glucose/insulin

Keeping tight control of your glucose intake is of paramount importance for any anti-inflammation program to be effective as it is a driving force that cannot be remedied by any supplementation or drug protocol. For example, diabetics do not die from diabetes, but from other degenerative conditions. Despite being on medication, 68% of all diabetics die from heart disease, and 50% of diabetics end up with dementia or Alzheimer’s as they age rapidly from the inside out.

This is directly due to the oxidation/inflammation from uncontrolled glucose and insulin.

By the way, grains, not sugar, are the #1 contributor to elevated glucose. Yes, even whole grains. Did you know that 2 pieces of whole grain toast or a bowl of oatmeal raises glucose the same as a can of Coke? This is why a Cellular Healing Diet eliminates ALL GRAINS from the diet UNTIL cellular inflammation is corrected.

  • Eliminate “bad fats”.

What are ‘bad fats’?  Well it may surprise you to know that the worse culprit is probably omega 6 fats from all the processed vegetable oils we’ve been told to consume!  All the sunflower and rape seed oils we buy in supermarkets to cook in, and that are added to all baked goods.

These oils are causing massive imbalance in the oily make up of our cell membranes and are a major cause of inflammation and artery damage.

You need no worry about eating sunflower seeds though – it’s just the processed oils.

Another inflammatory fat (no surprises) is that found in processed meats and beef from non-grass fed cows.

On the other hand, limited fats from grass fed cows are fine (and contain the beneficial omega 3 oils).

  • The Hidden and Unspoken Truth

Lastly, toxins, in my opinion, are the biggest driving factor of inflammation today. We have discussed this in every ‘R’ of cellular healing, so I will not get into it here but I will say this: if you do not remove the hidden sources of toxins within your body, the chronic inflammation will NEVER be resolved.

For example, personal care products you use every morning contain, on average, 518 chemicals that are known “hormone disruptors”.

There are also the pollutants and toxins in the air we breath (which kills between 20,000 and 240,000 people in the UK every year), the tap water we drink (a known cause of male infertility) and all the pesticides and herbicides on our fruit and veg.

R3 – Restore Cellular Energy

When it comes to low cellular energy, it can be causing more than just fatigue.

You may not even have fatigue, but instead:

Allergies/sensitivities

And /or inflammation (arthritis, aches, pains, bowel problems)

You rectify low cellular energy by
i) increasing the fuel available
ii) increasing the number of ‘power plants’ in your cell.

The power plants inside your cells are called mitochondria, and they make energy via  molecule known as ATP.

Sick people and people with chronic inflammation have far fewer mitochondria  than the average person and, therefore, far less cellular energy even for basic function. Once again this leads to many of their symptoms including sensitivities as well as why they do not respond to what would be effective treatments.

R1: Remove the Source

Summary:

The body has an innate ability to heal.

One of the most important things we need to do as therapists is remove the interference, remove the source of the problem/toxicity.

Toxins like mercury leach into the hypothalamus and pituitary.

Once we can impact the cell we can impact so much more going on in the body.

Making ATP (energy) creates waste – must be removed trough membrane like smoke through a chimney.

One main pathway – Glutathione.

Reduced Glutathione removes toxins and down-regulates inflammation.

Oxidized glutathione needs to be recycled which is ‘expensive’ metabolically

Inflammation is a root cause of cancer, diabetes, thyroid disorders, arthritis, ALZHEIMER’S

And even the inability to lose weight

Its all because of cell membrane inflammation which then effects your DNA

The Four Horsemen of Your Health Apocalypse

I know.
It’s a dramatic title.
But it’s also alarmingly true.

Nearly all of today’s chronic illnesses are caused by a combination of these Four Horsemen. Ignore their insidious infestation into your life at your peril…

Back to the 4 Horsemen

1.Stress

No surprises here I’m sure. 75-90% of GP visits are related to stress, and stress contributes to everything from cancer to back pain.

2.Sedentary lifestyle

A lack of exercise is related to increased cancer, heart disease, depression, dementia, back pain etc.
Spinal motion all by itself is critically important. 90% of the brains stimulation comes from optimal spinal motion. The brain can turn on or off stress and regulates all of your body’s functions.

Related to the spine is poor posture .  Poor posture leads to an early grave.

3.Malnutrition

Most people associate malnutrition to mean a lack of calories and picture starving children in Africa. However far MORE people die from too many calories combined with a lack of micronutrients. This is what plagues the UK.  Proper nutrition, which means supplements as well as a good diet, is the most cost effective way to improve the health of the nation.

4.Toxins

This is the most ignored area, yet often the most critical in serious and ‘terminal’ cases. There are at least 700 man made toxins in every adult and child. Toxins cause ¼ of all deaths world wide. They contribute to 86% of chronic disease (cancer, heart disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s  etc), and account for rising cancer rates in children.

Are You Digging Your Grave With Your Teeth?

According to an article in the Guardian on 10/10/2017 ‘obesity threatens to bankrupt the NHS’.

Figures compiled by the World Obesity Federation reveal the current cost to the UK is £14.38 billion and will rise to £23.47 billion by 2025.

Currently, or should I say in 2014, 27.3% of the UK population where classified as obese. If current trends keep going, then we can expect 33.9% by 2025.

In my opinion there are a number of things to blame for this global trend:

  • The abdication of our health responsibility thanks to drugs and vaccines
  • The abdication of our eating habits thanks to world wide food business
  • The ‘luxury’ of modern living meaning we don’t have to move to get food

In the end though, none of the above really matter, as it’s YOU that choses what to eat, and how to exercise.

So what can be done?

Learning about health in general is a great start, and I’ve written and vlogged a great deal about this already.

As I know that many, many people need an easy answer, here’s 3 videos to help:

Methylation: Why Stress Turns You Toxic, (and alters your genes)

R5: Re-Establish Methylation

Many people still think genetics determine our health.  The fact is, genes only really determine what happens if WE don’t do enough of the right things, or too much of the wrong thing.

Understanding methylation is critical to this.

The short version of this article is ‘nutrition influences your genetics, and stress influences it too’. And the good news is nutrition and how you respond to stress IS UNDER YOUR CONTROL

Increase methyl donors and you will also increase glutathione

Methyl depletion also depletes glutathione which will drive inflammation.

Stress depletes methyl donors and can cause mood swings, sleeping problems, anxiety and irritability.

You need methyl groups to remove toxic oestrogen metabolites.

Methyl protects DNA.

Optimal methylation pre-conception (in mother and father)  turns off ‘crap’ genes for next generation.

Dr. Alan Vinitsky, a researcher and doctor, theorized that due to the importance of methylation in the body and its multiple functions, there must be a prioritization of the valuable methyl groups it uses in the many life-sustaining functions.

Your body needs methyl groups to activate cortisol and adrenalin (the 2 most important stress hormones), and if there is a lack of methyl groups it will take them away from other uses to activate the hormones needed to adapt to stress. If your body does not adapt to stress it dies, thus it adapts to survive. The problem is that now the other needs are not met and new problems will arise such as DNA damage (cancer) or genes of susceptibility being turned on. This is a new understanding of how stress can lead to a host of different diseases.

Stress is the number one way methyl groups become depleted. Remember, your body does not know the difference between physical, chemical or emotional stress. The body’s response is the same, and its use of methyl groups to adapt to the stress is the same. Yes all of your worrying is costing you valuable methyl groups and putting your DNA at risk.

Glutathione, Pollution, and Your Health

Ageing can be thought of as a form of rusting.

Rusting is exacerbated by oxidation – which happens naturally when you exercise, and as part of life,  and it is accelerated by pollution and toxins in the air we breathe,  the water we drink, the food we eat, and even the 200 chemicals in our bathrooms and cleaning products.

Of all the molecules our body makes to protect us against this onslaught, glutathione is arguably the most important.

But even glutathione itself is under attack by medicine we think of as safe – paracetamol and Calpol.

Your glutathione levels fall, by about 10% to 15% per decade!

Decreased glutathione levels result in accelerated aging, low energy, higher inflammation, and a greater vulnerability to cell damage and disease

Glutathione is the body’s master antioxidant .

It functions both as an antioxidant and an antitoxin and is a major defence against illness and aging. Our glutathione levels indicate our state of health and can predict longevity. There are more than 60,000 published papers on the beneficial effects of glutathione.

Possible warning signs you have low glutathione:

  • abdominal pains
  • diarrhoea
  • headaches
  • joint pains
  • depression
  • rashes
  • lack of energy
  • frequent colds
  • shaky hands after exertion

Some of the many functions of glutathione:

  • required to get rid of heavy metal toxicity (included are mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium)
  • boosts white blood cell formation, which helps boost immunity/immune system
  • used by the body to neutralize/remove things like formaldehyde, car exhaust chemicals, cigarette smoke, and certain pharmaceuticals, pesticide and industrial chemicals, steroids, bacterial produced toxins, and alcohol
  • plays a role in DNA repair
  • anti-viral properties
  • positively affects insulin production and control by the pancreas
  • can help decrease/reverse cataracts

And most importantly for energy production: glutathione is the only anti-oxidant inside mitochondria, which are the energy producing factories in our cells.

If you have a sedentary, non-stressful life then you should be getting enough nutrients to make glutathione if you eat plenty of organic nuts, seeds, avocados, eggs, lentils and lots of veg, some high quality grass fed meat.

If you are under stress, have any of the symptoms listed above, or exercise, then it would be advisable to take at least a good multivit/mineral with HIGH amounts of B vitamins in,  and whey protein from organic, grass fed cows.
